A Virginia Farm Risk Simulation Scenario

Augustaland Farms is a cow/calf/hay operation in the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The farm runs 100 mother beef cows on 275 acres of pasture and 75 acres of grass hay meadows. They calve in the fall and sell weaned calves in late July. They get one cutting of hay each year using all of their production as winter feed for their cows.
